An Engagement Story
Our engagement prior to the pandemic was what we made it — an adventure. We took photos in every style that intrigued us: a studio shoot, a session in Paris, shot a Beyoncé inspired video, and had a champagne celebration in Zion National Park. We chose a wedding venue in Ireland, made a family crest combining both sides of our family, and I used cut up pages from Harry Potter books to make origami flowers. I read James Joyce, and we ordered fabrics for the hand-fastening ceremony.
The pandemic, as many other engagement stories tell, changed things. We weren’t sure what to expect, and it became the stitch in our side rather than the worry of centerpieces or menu options. It was a diversion at best, and we dove into what we could control: gift bag ideas and name tags. We centered on the idea that if people are to travel during the Plague to our wedding, we are determined to make it so incredibly special for them, and for us.
The legacy of our engagement story is not that we postponed our wedding twice. We have been given time, and patience. We sit at the airport to Dublin, writing the finale of an engagement that has proven to be as unique as we hoped it would be. From the base of Golden Gate Bridge, where Jamie said “Yes,” to the canyons of Zion, where Ireland was brought to me, we are now crossing country boundaries to a world in need of light, laughter, and love.
Our friends and family who are joining us - it means more than you can imagine that you are packing, boarding, and celebrating with us.
For all that Jamie and I are to one another, nothing has not changed, nor could it with the circumstances. And it will be filled with even more anticipation than we could’ve imagined - the good, the bad, and the viral.
