A Halloween Reveal From a Rockstar
By the end of each day, I can honestly say I support my wife in all her hopes and dreams. So when she told me how she wanted to tell her friends/co-workers that she was pregnant at a Halloween party, I was fully game. She knew the day the strip turned up positive for pregnancy, that she would channel Beyoncé once more. As time grew closer to the Halloween party, and her clothes were just getting tight enough where she couldn’t hide it much longer, the preparations were underway and I realized I had no idea what I signed up for.
Because it was not just Jamie’s reveal. It was to become a Halloween bash of a lifetime. A videographer was hired. Massive decorations were installed. We turned my chiropractic office into an outdoor house’s neon nightmare. One treatment room turned into a graveyard, while the other was Hogwart’s great hall. Outside I put on “Nosferatu” on our projector, and beer from a local brewery was supplied. I made skeletons out of brie, eyeball guacamole, and my best batch of butterbeer yet.
Jamie also insisted that we have multiple Halloween acts. I read Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Raven,” and we got Lora to rap her original album “Wet Ass Pumpkin.” Jamie had Lora and Teddy practice a few days before the party as her back-up dancers, while Jane and I set up the office. Without Jane, I am sure I would have drowned in all the tasks to make this Halloween party everything Jamie envisioned. And, it turned out perfect. She was a great Beyoncé, and everyone was so happy and excited about the announcement. We did a small party photoshoot, and I put on “Bram Stoker’s Dracula” outside. I remember sitting there, next to cousin Meredith, drinking an Oktoberfest by Standard Deviant, in such a state of relief. The world knows, and another life event beautifully accomplished. And yes, sometimes just telling friends you are pregnant is a life event — though Jamie tends to fly to the moon with her ideas, I love that about her. This is a big, freaking deal.
Jane is one of my favorite people to share experiences with — she is the best support in the world. And when I heard she was coming to San Francisco to go to Jamie’s 20 week pregnancy ultrasound, I knew it would be that much more special. Not only did we get to see the baby move and wiggle around together, we also got to go to the annual Pumpkin Festival in Half Moon Bay, pick out pumpkins together, and she helped with the Halloween party. Thank you Mamma Perin for making events like these so special.
