Surfing in Bolinas and Knife Throwing at Ren Fest

Surfing in Bolinas and Knife Throwing at Ren Fest

Matt and Julia came to San Francisco, and it was a Classic California adventure! We went fishing on the pier with the Golden Gate bridge as our back drop, ate at our favorite restaurants, met with eclectic small business owners, and of course, went surfing. In Bolinas, early enough in the morning for the sea lions to bid us welcome, dad caught his very first wave — as well as his second! While in a lesson, he was able to stand a couple of times with the gentle, rolling waves at our favorite surf spot. Jamie, 4 months pregnant and still able to lay on her belly, was right behind him catching some herself. I even almost caught a party wave with him. The tide was too high for Julia and Lemon to come out onto the beach to watch us, but we saw them sitting on a rock ledge, enjoying the surrounding grey sky and subtle hues of morning time that is so typical of that area. I am so proud of my father — all those days in Ohio where he practiced his pop-up exercises truly paid off.

While at the Renaissance Faire, Dad and Julia dressed their part as we did our annual pilgrimage through time itself. We spent the day drinking alcoholic cider, knife throwing, strong man competitions, and watching the Dirty Laundry show (our favorite ladies in the business). It is the best place to people watch, shop for medieval accessories, and tap into your inner fairy.

We are so happy with the time we got to spend with them, cooking, grabbing ice cream, and sharing some of our favorite activities together! Here is to next year, and to the next wave.
