I Once Met A Goat in Pescadero
While we have lived in California for several years now, there is so much landscape yet to be discovered. One of my favorite things is driving into coastal towns and walking through the local businesses. Recently we visited Pescadero, a small town just south of Half Moon Bay.
At the start of the day we hiked Pescadero Marsh Nature Preserve, where the flapping of bird wings soon distracted you from the distant highway. Caterpillars, large enough to induce a shiver down my spine, munched noiselessly along the trail edge, and toads were never actually seen. It felt safe, and fragile — this landscape, and Jamie and I trespassed for only a short while.
Afterwards we parked at a goat farm, Harley Farm, where we got fresh lavender goat cheese and olallieberry jam. The baby goats were playful and sweet — convinced anything could be a teat. For dinner we stopped at the infamous Duarte’s Tavern and ordered their artichoke soup and olallieberry pie. We got more jam and crackers from Arcangeli Grocery, and drove home along coastal country roads.
