Of Bikes, Bandits, and Benedicts
This year’s Easter festivities had several firsts! Meredith and Tyler joined us in our annual trip to Carmel-by-the-Sea, and we got to do an Easter Brunch at Clint Eastwood’s Mission Ranch Restaurant. But it was also a weekend where we got to repeat traditions: bike along the 17-mile drive, walk along the beach with Boo, take in the cottages and fairy-like homes, eat pretzels and creme brûlée, and dye eggs. It was a weekend of relaxation and adventure, in its quiet and sweet way.
Easter morning was the most fun - Jamie and I woke at 5:30a.m. to hide easter eggs for Meredith and Tyler, which is not easy when you share a hotel room. Every time they would move in bed we would freeze for a minute, and Jamie even got adventurous crawling beneath their bed. Little did I know, but she was also hiding eggs for me. It turned out to be a pretty impressive hunt, since Jamie and I also forgot where we put the eggs, and therefore was of little help to them. Carmel will always be an acceptable place for us to be kids again.
Easter brunch at Mission Ranch was delicious! Between the four of us, we had eggs benedict, clam chowder, pear salads, salmon, and crab cake benedict. We got to watch the sheep in the adjoining fields and the ocean in the distance while drinking mimosas. Boo got out and played as she always does, and we left Carmel with our hearts and tummies fulfilled.
