Bars and Bridges: a McCarty Story

Bars and Bridges: a McCarty Story

There are those perfect days that you can look back upon and think, everything up to this point in our lives lead us to where we are now. When Kathy's parents, Matt and Julie, came to visit, we spent a day in that same perfect melody in the city.  Was it the perfect weather? The delicious food? The tiniest pub, the new people we met? All in one day we walked around the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco's Marina District, biked the length of the Golden Gate Bridge, found the tiniest pub in history, and ate a wonderful dinner. Biking the bridge is a tourist staple, one that we both had not yet done, but really looking forward too. Luckily there was no fog, but the wind hit us hard during parts of the bridge. The views beyond the bright orange framing of the bridge was of the restless water, the coastline, Alcatraz, a lone fishing boat, and the crowded city. We were tired afterwards, and much in need for a celebratory drink! To what we celebrated, it didn't matter at that point. We had worked hard at being tourists, and Matt had never been to San Francisco.

We entered into San Francisco's smallest pub, the Black Horse London Pub. It measures 19ft x 7ft, and the beer was chilled in a tub behind the bar. Cash only, and the conversations you have must include your close neighbors. Soon we were drinking and joking with people who seemed to be regulars, and we ourselves felt like there was no place we would rather be. We then walked a couple blocks to a restaurant called Street, where we wine and dined to end a perfect day.

While the day was wonderful in the city, Matt and Julie stayed a few more nights. Another day we hiked Muir Woods, and two others Matt stayed permanently under cars, fixing and re-fixing! They were happy to rest from the drive to the West, and we were happy to have them with us. Where family is, home is. We like it when home comes out to meet with our adventures.
