Weathering a Tempest: Our Maternity Photoshoot

Weathering a Tempest: Our Maternity Photoshoot

Maternity. So many things that we will want to remember, so many changes we cannot forget. I look through photos of when we found out we were having a baby, and how nine months feels like an eternity. Where each age shows a different size bump and a new round of clothes that cannot be worn. Now that we are in the 39th week of pregnancy, it feels like we are out of time. Soon we will be mothers, and “all this dreaming is at an end.” Until baby is here…dream giver.

We had a lot of fun planning our maternity photoshoot - a way to document the here and now, before the two of use become three. We traveled to Santa Barbara for a weekend, and booked a photographer. The problem was that we booked this on a weekend that turned out to be a torrential downpour of rain, and our morning photos were at the peak of a wind storm.

We decided to go ahead with the photoshoot, thinking our photos would be cute, wind swept, baywatch-esque photos. Oh, how wrong we actually were. The photos in reality looked like we were smiling at the camera going 200mph down a highway with our head out the window. On the beach, we couldn’t look at the camera without sand pelting into our eyeballs. Luckily, the next day there was a break in the storm and we were able to redo the photoshoot - but don’t worry. We attached the original photoshoot at the end of this blog for your enjoyment.

And now, since we have proven how cute we are, you can see the absolute mess that was our first photoshoot during the wind and rain storm. While we took photos on the beach, there was an actual real-live shipwreck behind us. A sailboat was washed ashore as onlooker and news teams took photos. And there we were, posing on the beach since we couldn’t reschedule our maternity photoshoot.
